Established in 1994, the Alabama Vaccine Research Clinic (AVRC) is part of the Division of Infectious Diseases within The University of Alabama at Birmingham's Department of Medicine. It is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and is the local site for the HIV Vaccine Trials Network (HVTN)--an international initiative.
The AVRC works with the Birmingham community to to provide HIV vaccine education and research for people who are interested in joining the fight against the HIV epidemic in the United States and abroad. While finding a safe and effective vaccination for HIV is our primary goal, the AVRC is also committed to other clinical studies using vaccines that are not HIV-related.
